Structured documents are useful until the work needs space. A user flow, system architecture, wireframe, or rough brainstorm often makes more sense on a board than in a stack of paragraphs. ReadyTools Workspace now includes a built-in Canvas block for that kind of work.

The update gives Workspace a free-form visual layer alongside text, files, tasks, and other page content. That makes it a practical Notion alternative for people who want document editing and visual planning in the same place, without adding a separate canvas product to the workflow.

What the new Canvas block does

Canvas supports freehand drawing, precision shapes, sticky notes, connectors, arrows, alignment guides, snapping, and tidy-up tools. It can handle anything from a quick idea map to a more structured architecture diagram.

It also includes curated libraries for software architecture, UX wireframing, system icons, stick figures, and diagram annotations. Existing ReadyTools Vault assets can be placed directly on the board, including images, audio, video, PDFs, code files, and other attachments.

Turn written ideas into editable diagrams

Lara can convert a natural-language description into an editable visual diagram. Describe a database schema, user journey, architecture, or logic flow in the Text-to-Diagram dialog, and Canvas turns the resulting Mermaid flowchart structure into native diagram elements.

That keeps the visual result connected to the surrounding page. A project plan can contain its goals and decisions in text, its supporting files from Vault, and its process diagram in the same Workspace document.

Who can use Canvas?

Canvas is available across ReadyTools plans, with heavy-block allowances managed according to each plan. It supports real-time collaboration through synchronized document state, so people can work on the same visual board without moving the diagram into another application.

Stylus and Apple Pencil support is included for users who prefer drawing by hand. Canvas also supports light and dark appearance settings, several surface styles such as grids and dot matrices, and exports to high-resolution PNG, SVG, or a complete scene file.

How to add a Canvas to a Workspace page

  1. Open a page in ReadyTools Workspace.
  2. Type /canvas in the block editor, or open the block insertion menu.
  3. Choose Canvas and begin drawing, adding shapes, embedding assets, or generating a diagram with Lara.

Workspace is designed to grow from a quick note into a complete project, keeping documents, research, files, collaboration, and publishing connected. Canvas extends that workflow when the next useful step is visual rather than written.
