New: Workspace Chat

With the new Workspace Chat, conversations can now live directly alongside the work they are about — without jumping between ReadyTools and a separate messaging app.

Each page can have its own conversation, while the Workspace itself also has a shared chat for discussions that are bigger than a single page. This makes it easier to keep feedback, questions, files and decisions connected to the right context.

Conversations where the work happens

Workspace Chat supports both page-level conversations and a Workspace-wide chat.

A page chat is useful when you are discussing a document, project, plan or idea directly connected to that page. The Workspace chat gives the whole team a more general place to communicate in the tree of the document.

You can quickly move between the two depending on what you are working on.

Unread messages are also tracked across the chats, so you can see when there is something new waiting for you.

More than just text messages

The first version of Workspace Chat already includes many of the things you would expect from a dedicated messaging experience.

You can reply directly to messages, edit your own messages, delete messages and add emoji reactions.

Team members can be mentioned directly, and @everyone can be used when a message is relevant to the entire team.

Files can be uploaded directly into a conversation or selected from ReadyTools Vault, keeping shared files close to both the discussion and the Workspace they belong to.

Workspace Chat also supports images, video, audio, GIFs and rich media previews, including supported YouTube and Spotify links.

Voice messages are built in

Sometimes typing out an explanation takes longer than simply saying it.

Workspace Chat therefore includes built-in voice messages. You can start a recording, pause it, continue recording and send it directly into the conversation.

Voice messages also include their own playback experience, making them feel like a native part of the chat rather than another uploaded file.

Lara is part of the conversation

One of the biggest differences between Workspace Chat and a traditional team chat is that Lara can participate too.

Mention @Lara in a conversation and you can ask questions without leaving the page your team is already discussing.

Lara can use recent conversation context, work with supported files attached to the request and, when enabled, use information from the current Workspace page.
You can also enable web access for a request. Lara can then search for information or use a website you included in your message as additional context.

That means a conversation could look as simple as:

“@Lara, summarize what we have decided so far.”

Or:

“@Lara, compare this page with the website I just sent.”

Or even:

“@Lara, update this page based on what we discussed.”

Lara can help with the Workspace itself

Lara is not limited to answering questions.

When you explicitly allow edits, Lara can use Workspace actions to help carry out tasks instead of only describing what you should do.

Changes are tracked as part of Lara's run, and supported changes can be rolled back if you decide you do not want to keep them.

Actions that require additional confirmation can also stop and ask for approval first rather than silently continuing.

This turns Lara into something much closer to another participant in the Workspace: someone who can understand the discussion, look at the surrounding context and help turn a conversation into actual work.

Designed for shared AI

Because Lara is available inside a team conversation, ReadyTools also coordinates when she is already helping another member.

This prevents multiple people from accidentally starting competing Lara tasks in the same shared Workspace at the same time.

Lara's response is written directly into the shared conversation as she works, so the result does not disappear into someone's private AI session — the team can see it in the same place where the request started.

Private conversations by design

Workspace Chat also follows the privacy model of Workspace.

Chat content and related message data are encrypted before being stored, including message content and supported metadata.

The chat encryption itself uses AES-GCM, so conversations are not treated as ordinary unprotected Workspace data.

A chat that adapts to how you work

Workspace Chat does not need to permanently take over your screen.

You can switch between Compact, Medium and Sidebar layouts depending on whether you only want to check a message, have an active conversation or keep chat open while working on a page.

The result is a chat designed around the Workspace instead of a Workspace with a generic chat box added to it.

You can discuss a page, share a file, send a voice message, mention a teammate, ask Lara for help and — when you choose — let Lara turn that conversation into actual changes.

All without leaving ReadyTools.
